We have a co called National By products that picks up all the bones, blood, guts etc etc.and processes them into supplements.in the town I am from. Usually if you want sheep skins they will just give them to you to as sheep skins can't be thrown in with the other stuff.They will spoil it. and whatever else one might need as well as hides if you want them. Yes if you can establish a good repor with a processor. I didn't have to give him $ up front after that year and I have been getting all of his hides for the last 9 years. At the end of the season I picked them up and payed the rest. I payed one guy $100 up front for all of his deer hides. They like that because it shows them I am serious about taking their hides and establishes a level of trust. If at the end of the season I don't pick up the hides they keep my deposit. Then offer them a non-refundable deposit up front for their hides. Try to decipher if they seem like they are doing a fair skinning job. What I have done is contact all of the meat cutters within a reasonable drive that I could do round trip in one day. America where a person shouldn't be able to find deer hides if they take the time and put out some effort to look? Every state and province has deer hunting don't they? Caribou in the far north. $15 sounds like a reasonable price to me for someone to pay who has not done the leg work to find their own local sources. Considering the gas money and the whole day and a half I spend getting them and putting them away at home, I am probably losing money by asking $10 a piece. I sell them to other hide tanners from time to time for $10 a piece. This same cutter hauled 30 moose and elk hides to the dump this year because nobody wanted them. I have to drive 3 hours each way to get them so I go once at the end of the season and get all of them in one load. I have another cutter that salts and saves his deer hides for me till the season is over. I actually get paid to haul them away with the waste from the local cutter. No tanneries within any reasonable shipping distance that will make it worth your while. There is no hide buyer who picks them up (except me). Where I live deer hides are virtually worthless. Then people can decide if they want to pay that or not.
If some one is selling something, the price is whatever they need to get in order to make it worth their while.
